Week 10 of training for my Ray Miller 50k in November was tough. It was the first full week of teaching again and I’m still building up my stamina for teaching! Haha. That sounds funny. I’m still getting to know my students and it was an emotionally draining week as I helped a couple of students work some stuff out. I was happy to still get in most of my miles and run 4 times with my good friend, Laura, who has been an amazing training buddy!

One of my favorite trails, Trailer Canyon.
Monday, August 29, 2016 = rest day
I was supposed to rest but did run/walk .82 miles with my students. I introduced them to running club and we ran together for the first time. It was awesome and the kids were excited as they’d seen me run with my class last year. They asked, “Are we going to run next week?” 🙂
Tuesday, August 30, 2016 = hill repeats
It’s been a while since I’ve done hill repeats. Laura joined me at Baldwin Hills Scenic Overlook. As we headed up the hill, we saw big fans and lots of people.
I saw chairs! Modern Family! So cool. I asked a security guard and he said they would be filming when it got dark and the scene was with Phil Dunphy. Awesome! We ran up and down 4 times and did see the actor who plays Phil Dunphy as he was driving up, very slowly, up the hill. I said, “Hi Phil!” Laura said, “Call me!”
I told the crew I’d be ready for hair and make-up after my workout. Training comes first! Haha. Just get the fans and grapes ready!
Before my run, I mailed off the prizes from my Blogiversary Giveaway! Yay!!! It’s so fun to share awesome products with others! Read about it here!
Wednesday, August 31, 2016 – AREC run
I ran a fast AREC 5.55 miler with Laura who joined me in Long Beach. She makes me run faster which is always good! It was a gorgeous evening and a great way to end the month.
I closed out the month with awesome mileage–the most I’ve ever run. I feel strong and healthy, too. I’m a bit tired but it’s nothing serious.
Thursday, September 1, 2016 – Trailer Canyon
Laura and I got a little bit of a late start with traffic and restroom stops. It gets dark so fast now so we couldn’t get in the 10. We did run 8 miles and I ran the last mile in the dark.
I was tired when we started but then the view is too beautiful and makes me forget that I’m tired. I never tire of the sunsets at Trailer Canyon. Wow. It was an amazing way to start the month.
Friday, September 2, 2016 – rest
Rest day and I got beautiful flowers from a student. I asked what the occasion was and he said his mom said that I did a good job teaching his brothers. So sweet!
Saturday, September 3, 2016 – long run
It was a Dirt Divas and Dudes off weekend but I planned a 12 miler at Westridge for whoever wanted to run. We found a dead tarantula at Nike Tower–look closely, he’s in the photo! We had a proper burial for it! I pushed myself on this run and felt so good! I tried to run more of the climbs and was able to run the whole way back without walking–first time!
Sunday, September 4, 2016 – recovery run
I had a nice 6.25 miler from Redondo Beach to Hermosa Beach. It was beautiful out and I felt great–no soreness.
38.52 miles for the week. I was a little bummed I didn’t get 40 miles–darn darkness! Why does the sun set sooner now? But I feel great and look forward to resting on Labor Day!
