Trail running is still new to me. I really started running trails more seriously in March 2015 when I joined the Coyotes. I love it now and especially love when we get to explore new trails.
On Saturday, December 26, 2015, my Coyote friends, Holly and Fernie and I decided for a more mellow trail since it was the day after Christmas. We opted for a later start time, too.
We went to Temescal Canyon. This was my 3rd time on this trail. I had forgotten how much climbing there was!
When we got to the Bienvenida junction, we decided to explore a new section. We went right and climbed up a steep hill!
I was scared! I hadn’t felt scared like this in a while. When I first started trail running, I was always so scared. I have come a long way. I was glad to challenge myself on this run.
Luckily, my friends were there to push me along and encourage me. I had to use my hands to get up there!
I was on all fours but I made it! That was a first!
We ran up the trail and commented on how the terrain was similar to Bull Dog.
We arrived at a huge rock. Later on, when I checked my map that Holly gave me, I learned this was Skull Rock! So cool!
Holly hugged the rock! Fernie climbed the rock and explored some more. I told myself I will climb this rock another time.
After Skull Rock, we ran parts of Trailer Canyon. We have run Trailer Canyon from the other side and didn’t know it connected to Temescal.
I love learning how all of these trails connect to one another!
We headed back after that and got a little lost going back, which was fun, but had a really good run! We ran 7 miles with 1,779 feet of elevation gain! Not bad! Next time I’d love to explore more of Skull Rock!
