On the last week before our winter break, my students and I had our very own Snowman Sprint!
For something a little different from our progressive marathon running, I decided we’d have relay races! I explained how a relay works and we formed co-ed teams. My students practiced passing the baton, too.
I told the kids this would be for fun and to try to make the teams even in ability and pace.
We started with a warm-up lap.
The first runners were off!
We had four students per team and each race was one lap.
The students wanted to run several races! So I told them to keep the same teams and switch places on the field.
My class had a blast! They loved doing something a little different from marathon running.
I explained that relay races required more speed for a short amount of time vs. the pace, endurance and stamina of marathon running.
They all want to run relay races again!
I told my class we can definitely mix things up and run our progressive marathon and have relay races, too. I’m glad they love running and being active!
They each got a Snowman Sprint badge to add to their collection!
Each runner got a Clif Z Bar, too! Clif gave me a bunch of Z Bars for kids so that my students can try them. They loved the Clif bars! Thank you, Clif!
Our holiday craft tied into our snowman theme, too! We made snow people out of socks and rice!
Two of my students made me a BB-8 snowman droid! We were all on a Star Wars kick just before our break with the anticipation of the release of the new movie. I told my students to get some running in while we’re on vacation! 🙂
