Last week’s pre-run talk was about pushing ourselves. The kids have been doing well, but I want them to push themselves a little more.
I told my students that often times, runners have a little bit of pain. Perhaps your side hurts or your foot hurts, but we keep pushing through and many times it feels better.
Many times, our minds tell us this is too hard or just walk now. I wanted my students to push themselves to run a little bit more than they have before.
I told the students about how I ran the Rock ‘n’ Roll LA Half and there were many hills. I shared that I am getting stronger from running trails and climbing mountains because running up the hills wasn’t as bad as it has been before. I told my students that we all work to get stronger and to improve.
I’m so proud that many students said that they did push themselves more on this run. Everyone feels good when they know they’ve put forth their best effort.
I really want to teach my students to keep pushing on, especially when something is hard. In class, many of the concepts we are learning are hard and students want to finish things fast or not take their time to solve a problem or analyze a text. I hope what we learn through running club translates into academics. 🙂 Just push yourself!
