Training for the Skechers Los Angeles Marathon began on September 19, 2015. Although I was sad to not make Team NutriBullet this year, training must go on! I can’t miss out on my favorite marathon in my hometown on Valentine’s Day 2016!
Some of the Team NutriBullet alumni decided we would continue training on our own. We can still spread the Team NutriBullet love and spirit as alumni. We invited friends to join us, too. We decided we would train on the first half of the course, which we didn’t train on last year. Last season, most of our training was in the Brentwood area so we ran the latter half a lot and always ran through the VA. We planned on a schedule that would alternate between the first half, latter half, middle sections of the course and trails, too.
We met at Elysian Park and ran through China Town. I’m excited that we will get to train on the first half of the course because it is tough–it’s hilly and it’s hilly. 🙂 Oh, and it’s hilly. 🙂 Before the run, we were joking about how hilly LA is and someone said, “To hill and back!” It became the mantra for the run!
I felt great on this run. It was a change in training grounds for me and that’s always good. I was happy to reunite with last season’s teammates and I got to meet new runners. It’s a little hard to think about training for another big race when I’m more in my 50k training mode but these runs will be good to for my back-to-back long runs. I’m happy to start a new journey and see where it takes me!
