Disclaimer: This post was sponsored by AfterShokz in an effort to spread awareness about their new Pink Trekz headphones, in partnership with Bright Pink to support and spread awareness around breast cancer awareness. All opinions and words are my own. I truly appreciate all of the brands that support the Sweat Pink community.
I’m proud to be part of the ShokzSquad for AfterShokz and share my Friday Five for what makes me feel empowered!
1.) Tunes that inspire!
On a run or after a long day, music makes me happy! Music helps to clear the mind and soothe the soul. I love deep, soulful house music that makes you want to dance! I love 80s music, too! (Doesn’t everybody?) And I love world music, too. AfterShokz headphones are comfortable, wireless and most importantly, use bone conduction technology so that you are still aware of what’s going on around you. The headphones have an open ear design so you can listen to music, take a call AND hear ambient noise. Read my review of the AfterShokz Trekz Titanium Pink here!
For every unit sold through October 31st, 2016 on aftershokz.com, AfterShokz will donate 25% of proceeds to Bright Pink – a non profit that focuses on breast and ovarian cancer awareness and education.
2.) Give back!
I try to empower myself and others by living a positive, healthy, fun-filled lifestyle. I switch my attitude when I’m feeling negative because I don’t want others to be affected by it. I tell myself that I will have a good run and that I will feel strong–and I do! As a teacher, I model the behavior and habits that I want my students to have. I run with my students weekly. My students are running a progressive marathon, logging their laps in each in their Running Journal. 6 laps = 1 mile and they are working hard to run their marathon! My students reflect on their running, too. My student wrote:
I hope to empower my students to lead healthy lifestyles where they are active, eat healthy food and stay hydrated. They love running and look forward to it weekly!
3.) Be a self-care advocate
I advocate for self-care in my life by treating myself to the little things that make me happy like a pumpkin spice latte! I write in my running journal and share reflections on this blog and it makes me happy when I can do that. I read magazines and running books with a cup of tea. Lately, I’ve been trying to get one chore done each evening. It eliminates doing laundry and dealing with mail over the weekend. I can enjoy my long runs and not worry about getting all of my chores done. This has helped me have some time for myself and it feels great!
4.) Inspiring threads!
I love wearing INKnBURN gear! It’s art on apparel, made in Orange County, CA by a small company. INKnBURN takes great care in the construction of their apparel and in their design like the tech shirt above called Healing Mandala. I wear Healing Mandala when I need some healing after a tough time or when I’m thinking about a friend who needs healing in their life. INKnBURN‘s apparel inspires me to get out and run. I always say, “When you look good, you feel good!” I want to feel good and get my sweat on!
5.) Friend who inspire!
My friend, Laura, inspires me. She and I have been running lots more together this season on our Dirt Divas and Dudes ultra running team. We motivate each other to get in our runs during the week. We run hill repeats, 7-10 milers during the week and long runs on the weekend. We encourage each other to stick to our training plan. We don’t let each other make excuses. We also remind one another when it’s better to let the body rest and recover. Laura makes me do the stuff I don’t want to do like planks and strength work. She’s strong, encouraging and loving. I’m so thankful for her friendship and am a better runner because of her.
There’s my Friday Five celebrating #AwareWithPink with AfterShokz. Here’s to empowerment, strength, inspiration and friendship!
