Last week, the students were excited to hear about my 100th lifetime half marathon at the JetBlue Long Beach Half! I wore my race shirt proudly. Many of the students now wear the tech shirts I gave them on running club days. Changing into P.E. clothing is something they will have to get used to at the middle school anyway! (Read about the time I gave the kids running shirts of their own here!)
We ran for about 17 minutes because it was very warm. It has been so hot for the past few weeks.
I talked to the kids about pacing themselves in the heat. We always talk about not giving up and pushing ourselves when we feel like we want to give up.
The students love running club days and always look forward to the following week.
We even had a surprise visitor last week! The superintendent was on campus visiting and saw us running. He joined us for a lap! He was so impressed with the students and said we deserved an ice cream party!
I said it’d be okay since the kids deserve a treat for not complaining about running in the heat. They really have been doing a great job with running and trying to meet their goals. I am really am proud of their progress!
