This week, I mentioned that my 100th lifetime half was coming up. Every week, the students ask about it so I mentioned that this was the big week! I told the kids to talk to Mother Nature about the crazy heat!
I talked to the students about being aware about how they feel as they run. The sentence frame I gave them for their journal was: When I run, I feel _________. or I felt __________. The student above did not like running the first couple of weeks. He would throw himself on the ground and complain. He has come a long way!
I love that students write about how running makes them feel free! I feel that way, too! I haven’t even mentioned running and feeling free so I’m impressed that a couple of students have written this.
I always talk about persevering, in class and in running. I hope this message translates as students get older.
Students ask if I will “win” the half marathon. I talk about how I will not win. I talk about how fast elite runners are and that I am not a fast runner. I tell them how I am not fast but I try and keep pushing myself. I am a winner because I compete against myself and challenge myself!
