On Sunday, February 21, 2016, my sister, boyfriend and I ran the Firecracker 5k race! It’s our annual tradition and while we love everything about the race, we really can’t wait to sit down for dim sum!
The race was well organized, as always. This was my 5th time running the race.
We waited at the start for the opening ceremony.
The race begins with a traditional lion dance!
After that, 100,000 firecrackers are it to kick off the new year! It is an amazing sight. One year, my sister and I were very close to the start line and it got a bit smokey and unpleasant. So now we watch from a distance!
100,000 firecrackers is really spectacular!
We got to warm-up with the Clipper girls!
We were ready to start!
Off we go! We knew we’d take it easy and have fun!
The Run FCKR signs and t-shirts are really great! 🙂
We started with a small uphill.
The taiko drummers at the top of the hill were powerful and propelled us forward.
We took a different route than in past years.
The turn-around! We love doing the 5k so we can get done sooner and get to dim sum!
We didn’t get to run to Dodger Stadium but we had a great view of downtown and we ran into my good friend, Dulce!
Fun times! We always find Dulce at this race! I love it! I missed running to Dodger Stadium and I liked that the course was tougher previously–makes me feel like we earned our dim sum! But it’s still a great race with awesome swag! The t-shirt is the best–it’s soft and always has a great design. We got a bag, goodies and a medal.
Finish line! The 10k was starting as we were sprinting to the finish!
Finish line selfie with my sis!
Afterward, we checked out the booths and I got yummy cold brew coffee from Cold Bruja.
We took our annual photos with the lanterns and the Chinatown gate!
Dulce looked amazing in her Chinese outfit!
I love walking around Chinatown and being in this very special area of Los Angeles.
We ran into my friend Leigh who was born in the Year of the Monkey! My sister and boyfriend are also Monkey people!
The best part is, we got to run and then have dim sum! Will run for dim sum!!! Another great run in the books with my family and friends! Here’s to the Year of the Monkey!
