I finally hit the trails again on Saturday, November 28, 2015! It was exactly three weeks since I’d last been on the trails at the Ray Miller 50k. I was ready to get back to it!
I joined Keira Henninger’s Dirt Diva Ultra Running Team but missed the first practice since it was on Avenger weekend. I didn’t run the Griffith Park trail races last week so this was my first practice, on an off-weekend. One of the girls, Heather, organized a run at Los Leones so I was excited to join in.
I’ve been wanting to run Los Leones for some time and was happy to be there again. It had been several months since I had last run Los Leones.
I had forgotten about the climbing involved!
The views were amazing, of course!
Los Leones has ocean views, too.
We got to the first overlook and then climbed to the next overlook. I got to know my teammates a bit better on the climb and was also thankful that they waited for me when I was behind.
I was a little nervous since it had been three weeks and my right leg had been bothering me that entire week. I had been rolling my right IT band which I think was pulling on my lower leg and making it tight and sore.
The view at the second overlook was spectacular!
We turned around, climbed and mostly got to run downhill on the way back.
I felt pretty good and just knew I needed to get a trail run in to get my body strong again.
We ran 8 miles and had 1,631 feet of elevation again. Nice!
I’m excited for this new chapter in my trail running and ultra running journey! I know I’m going to learn a lot from the Dirt Divas this season. I already learned that my jumping skills are lacking and made a goal to be better about kicking myself in the butt! Haha. The girl who took the photo above offered to take a jumping photo and said she’d coach us. She said to kick our butts and we would look like we were jumping high. So clearly, I need to work on kicking my butt! So two goals for the season: kick my butt and run a 50k. Sounds good to me! 🙂
